Rule 112.01 Informal Adjustment

This rule explains how a juvenile officer can handle a case without going through a formal court hearing. Instead of filing a case in court, the officer can talk with the young person and their parent, guardian, or custodian, and give them advice or guidance to help solve the problem informally.

If everyone agrees, this informal approach can also include the juvenile officer supervising the young person for a while. It can even include placing the young person somewhere other than home for a short time, but only if the parent, guardian, or custodian, and the juvenile agree to it, and only if the law allows it.

The juvenile officer can also connect the family with outside help. This might mean sending them to a counseling program, community service, or another public or private agency that can offer support or services the family needs.

Overall, this rule gives juvenile officers a way to help families solve problems early, without the need for a formal court case, as long as everyone involved agrees to the plan.
