Rule 113.02 Amendment of Petition

Here's what this rule means in plain terms.

A petition is the formal document that starts a juvenile or family court case. This rule says the petition can be changed or updated, but only if the judge gives permission first. Either side involved in the case can't just change the petition on their own whenever they want.

If the judge does allow changes to the petition, the rule also protects the other people involved in the case. It says the court must give everyone enough extra time to prepare for the changes. This means if new information or new claims get added to the petition, the other side doesn't have to rush. They get a fair chance to look at what changed and get ready to respond before the next hearing.

In short, this rule balances two things. It lets petitions get updated when needed, but it also makes sure nobody gets blindsided or rushed into a hearing without proper time to prepare.
