If you get a ticket for something like a traffic violation, your fine amount usually comes from a standard list instead of being picked at random by whoever handles your case. This rule explains where that list comes from.
A group called the committee is in charge of creating and keeping this fine schedule up to date. The schedule sets the fine amounts for violations that get handled through a violations bureau, which is the office that lets you pay certain fines without having to go before a judge.
Once the committee finishes the schedule, they have to file it with the clerk of the Missouri Supreme Court. This makes the schedule official and available for courts to use. The goal is to keep fines consistent, so people facing similar violations across the state are treated the same way instead of facing different amounts depending on location.
