Rule 142.01 Summons - Form

If you're taking someone to small claims court, the court will issue a summons to officially notify the other person about the case. This summons has to follow a specific format that's already been approved and can be found in Rule 152.

The point of this rule is to make sure every summons looks the same and includes the right information, no matter which small claims court you're in. You don't need to write your own summons from scratch or guess what it should say. The court uses the standard form to let the other person know they're being sued, what the case is about, and when they need to respond or show up.
