Rule 145.02 Action Dismissed - When

If you file a small claims case but don't show up for your trial, the judge can throw out your case. This applies to whoever brought the claim, whether that's you suing someone or someone using a counterclaim against you.

Basically, showing up matters. If you're not there at the date, time, and place set for your trial, you lose your chance to make your case. The judge has the power to dismiss it right then and there, which means your claim is over and you'd have to start over if you wanted to try again (and even that might not be possible, depending on the circumstances).

If something comes up and you can't make it to your trial, you should contact the court as soon as possible before your scheduled date. Waiting until the last minute or simply not showing up puts your entire case at risk.
