Rule 3 Commencing an Action

To start a lawsuit in Nevada, you simply file a complaint with the court. That's it. The moment you file this document, your case officially begins.

The complaint is the paperwork that lays out your claims against the other party. It explains who you're suing, why you're suing them, and what you want the court to do about it. Filing this document is the first official step in the legal process, and everything else in your case follows from there.

This rule is simple on purpose. It sets a clear starting point so everyone, including the court, knows exactly when a case legally begins.
