If a receiver is involved in a lawsuit, whether the court is being asked to appoint one, or the receiver is suing someone, or being sued themselves, the case follows the regular rules of civil procedure. A receiver is a neutral person a court puts in charge of property or a business, usually to protect it while a legal dispute gets sorted out.
There is one important difference once a receiver has actually been appointed in a case. At that point, the case cannot just be dropped or ended by the parties on their own. Only a judge can dismiss it. This protects the property or business under the receiver's control, making sure things are wrapped up properly instead of left in limbo.
