Rule 1.4 Computing time

When you're counting the days for a deadline in a traffic case, you don't count the first day, the day something happens or gets filed. You start counting from the next day.

If your deadline lands on a Saturday, Sunday, holiday, or a day the court is closed, you get until the next day the court is open to get things done. This gives you a little breathing room so you're not stuck trying to file paperwork when the courthouse doors are locked.

One thing to keep in mind: mailing your documents doesn't buy you extra time. If a deadline says something is due on a certain day, it needs to actually reach the court by that day. Dropping it in the mailbox a few days before doesn't count as meeting the deadline if it arrives late.
