Rule 2.6 Representation of the State

When you get a ticket and go to court to fight it, the state doesn't need to send a lawyer to argue against you. The officer who wrote the ticket, or another representative, can handle the case for the state instead of a prosecutor.

This same rule applies if you decide to appeal your case after a judge makes a decision. The state still isn't required to hire or send an attorney to represent its side during the appeal process.

This means you might be facing a police officer or other non-lawyer representative in court instead of a trained prosecutor. It's worth keeping in mind when you prepare your case, since the person representing the state may not have formal legal training.
