Rule 82 Discovery

If you're dealing with a civil traffic infraction case, you won't get to use the normal discovery tools that people use in other civil lawsuits. That means no formal requests for documents, no depositions, and no written questions sent to the other side.

Instead, your discovery is limited to two things: a copy of the traffic citation and the officer's written statement, if the officer gave one to the court. You can get copies of these by making a records request with the court and paying the standard copy fees.

This rule keeps things simple and fast for traffic cases. Since these cases are usually straightforward, the court doesn't require the same lengthy discovery process used in bigger civil lawsuits.
