Rule 109 Service

If someone files a complaint against a lawyer under these rules, the complaint has to be delivered in one of two ways. Either it can be handed directly to the lawyer by someone authorized to do that, following the same process used in regular civil court cases, or it can be sent by registered or certified mail. The mail must go to the address the lawyer has on file with the state bar, or to the lawyer's last known address if there is nothing more current.

For any other documents or notices connected to the case, the normal civil court rules for sending paperwork apply. This means things like motions, responses, or updates get delivered the same way they would in a typical lawsuit, unless these specific rules say to do something different.

In short, this rule makes sure the lawyer actually finds out about a complaint against them in a reliable way, either through direct delivery or trackable mail. It also keeps the process consistent with normal court procedures for everything else that gets filed along the way.
