Rule 77 Membership in state bar required; exceptions

If you want to practice law in Nevada, you need to be an active member of the state bar. Without that membership, you cannot act as a lawyer in the state's courts.

There are a few exceptions. Some people can practice law without being an active bar member if they qualify under specific rules, SCR 42 and 43, which cover special situations for practicing law. Others may qualify under SCR 49.1, which allows certain certified individuals to practice law under specific listed conditions.

In short, being a licensed, active member of the Nevada State Bar is the standard requirement to practice law here. The only way around that requirement is if you fall into one of these narrow, specifically approved categories.
