§ 6205 Order of attachment in certain cases

If you win a money judgment in court against a foreign government, you may be able to get an order of attachment to help you collect that money. An order of attachment is a legal tool that lets you freeze or claim property belonging to the other party.

However, there are strict federal rules that control when and how this can happen. Federal law sets limits on what property of a foreign government can be seized, so you cannot simply take any property you find. The process must follow both state and federal rules.
