New York Family Court Act – 2026
The Family Court Act is the New York Legislature's statute establishing the Family Court and governing what it hears: child protective proceedings, termination of parental rights, permanency hearings, juvenile delinquency, persons in need of supervision, paternity, support, custody and visitation, and family offense proceedings. It is a different body of law from the Uniform Rules for the Family Court (22 NYCRR Part 205), which are the court system's own practice rules for the same court.
