§ 205.55 Special applications

If you want the court to skip or shorten certain adoption requirements, you need to ask in writing. This includes things like waiving a required in-person appearance, shortening the time a child must live with the adoptive family before the adoption is finalized, or reducing the waiting period after the adoption papers are filed.

You can't just make a verbal request or send a simple letter. You must submit a written application along with a sworn affidavit. This affidavit needs to explain why you're asking for the exception and include all the relevant facts and details that support your request. The judge will use this information to decide whether to grant your request.

This rule exists so the court has a clear, documented reason before it bends any of the normal adoption rules. It protects everyone involved by making sure these decisions aren't made casually or without good cause.
