§ 1720 Affidavit to be annexed thereto

When a guardian files a financial account with the court, they can't just hand it in on its own. They have to attach a sworn statement, called an affidavit, that goes along with it.

In this affidavit, the guardian is promising the court that everything in the account is true and correct, based on what they honestly know and believe. This means the guardian is putting their word on the line. If they lie or leave out important information, they could get in trouble for making a false statement to the court.

This rule exists to keep guardians accountable. Since guardians manage money or property for someone else, usually a child or a person who can't manage their own affairs, the court wants proof that the guardian is being honest about how they handled that money or property.
