§ 705 Time, how reckoned upon successive letters

When someone gets appointed to handle an estate (like an executor or administrator), the court gives them "letters" that officially prove they have this authority. Sometimes a court issues more than one set of letters for the same estate over time. This rule explains how to count deadlines when that happens.

If a law says something must be done within a certain amount of time after letters are issued, the clock starts running from the date of the very first letters, not from any later ones. This matters because it keeps deadlines consistent, even if new or additional letters get issued later for the same estate.

There are two exceptions to this rule. First, if another law specifically says to count time differently, that other law wins. Second, if the first set of letters (or any letters that came after) got revoked under section 1413, the normal counting rule does not apply in the same way.
