§ 207.57 Special applications

If you want the court to skip or shorten certain steps in an adoption case, like a required in-person appearance, the time a child needs to live with the adoptive family before the adoption is final, or the waiting period after filing the adoption papers, you have to ask for this in writing. You can't just make the request verbally in court.

Along with your written request, you need to include a sworn statement (called an affidavit). This statement should explain why you're asking for the exception and include all the facts that support your request. The judge will use this information to decide whether to grant your request.

This rule exists to make sure the court has a clear record of why someone needs special treatment in their adoption case, and to give the judge enough information to make a fair decision.
