Rule 8.12 Notice in Action to Terminate Parental Rights

If someone is facing a case that could end their parental rights, they have the right to a lawyer at every step of the process. If they can't afford one, the court must provide a lawyer for free.

Before any hearing happens, the parent must be told about this right in writing, either through a notice of hearing or a summons. The court also has to check and confirm that this notice was actually sent to the parent. This helps make sure parents know they don't have to face these serious cases alone and that they can get legal help even if money is tight.
