Rule 7 Bond for Costs on Appeal in Civil Cases

When someone appeals a civil case, the Superior Court can make them put up money or some other kind of security before moving forward with the appeal. This protects the other side by making sure there's money available to cover the costs of the appeal if the appellant ends up owing them.

The amount and type of security depend on the case. The court decides what's needed based on the situation, and it can ask for a bond, cash, or another form of guarantee.

If someone acts as a surety (a person or company that backs the bond), Rule 8(b) spells out the rules that apply to them. This means a surety has certain responsibilities and obligations tied to that bond, which are covered in the separate rule.
