Rule 610 Religious Beliefs or Opinions

You cannot use someone's religious beliefs against them in court to make them look more or less trustworthy. For example, a lawyer cannot argue that a witness should not be believed because of their religion, or that a witness should be believed more because of their religion.

This rule protects people of all faiths from having their beliefs used to judge whether they are telling the truth. A witness's religion simply has nothing to do with whether their testimony is honest or reliable.
