Rule 18 Continuances

If you need more time before your court date, you must ask for it in writing. Your written request must explain why you need more time. The court will not grant a delay just because you ask.

If the judge approves your request, they will give you a new specific date for your hearing or trial. The court cannot simply postpone your case without setting a new date.
