Sec 2.10 Conflict of Interest

If you serve as a Commissioner on this disciplinary board, you can't act as a lawyer for someone facing a disciplinary case while you're serving in that role. This rule also applies to your law partners and associates. None of you can represent a lawyer in these proceedings during the time you're on the Commission.

The rule also covers cases that started while you were a Commissioner, even if you later leave the Commission. So if a disciplinary case began during your time of service, you and your partners still can't take it on later, even after your term ends.

The point of this rule is to avoid situations where a Commissioner's personal or business relationships could affect the fairness of a disciplinary case. It keeps a clear separation between the people who judge these cases and the people who represent lawyers in them.
