Sec 4.6 Conflict of Interest

If you sit on the disciplinary Tribunal, you can't represent a lawyer who is facing discipline under these rules. This also applies to your law partners and associates. As long as you're serving on the Tribunal, none of you can take on that kind of case.

The rule doesn't end when your term does. After you finish serving on the Tribunal, you personally have to wait one full year before you can represent a lawyer in one of these disciplinary cases. This waiting period only applies to you, not to your law partners or associates, once your term is over.

The point of this rule is to keep the disciplinary process fair and free from conflicts of interest. It stops Tribunal members from using their position to help out lawyers they work with, and it stops them from stepping off the Tribunal and immediately turning around to represent someone in a case connected to that same system.
