If someone files a complaint against a lawyer, that complaint will still move forward even if there's a criminal case, civil lawsuit, or other legal proceeding happening at the same time that deals with similar facts. The disciplinary process doesn't automatically stop or wait just because another case covers the same ground.
The only way the complaint process gets paused is if the Commission decides to allow it, and they'll only do that for a good reason. So having a related court case somewhere else isn't enough on its own to delay things. Someone would need to show the Commission a solid reason why waiting makes sense, and the Commission has to agree before any delay happens.
This means people can't use a pending lawsuit or criminal charge as an automatic excuse to slow down or avoid a disciplinary review. The complaint gets handled on its own timeline unless there's a specific, approved reason to pause it.
