Art IV Sec 6 Length of Service

If you serve three years in a row on the Board of Governors, you can't immediately run for another term. You have to take a break before serving again. This rule doesn't count time you served because you were appointed to fill an empty seat partway through a term. So if you only joined the board through an appointment to fill a vacancy, that time doesn't use up your three years.

There is an exception written into the Association's Bylaws, which may allow someone to continue serving under certain conditions even after three consecutive years. But the general rule is meant to keep the board fresh by making sure the same people don't stay in power without a break.
