When a judge makes a decision or order outside of regular court sessions, the court clerk still has to write it down right away. The clerk records it in the official court journal, just like they would for any order made while court is in session.

This means paperwork done outside of a formal hearing carries the same weight as anything decided in the courtroom. It also means there's an official written record of the order, so people involved in the case can look it up later and know exactly what was decided and when.
