§ 1331 Persons who may prosecute writ.

If you are being held or locked up for any reason, you have the right to ask a court to check if that restraint is legal. This request to the court is called a writ of habeas corpus. It doesn't matter what excuse is being used to hold you. You can still challenge it in court.

The law says this right belongs to every person whose freedom has been taken away. If a judge looks into the situation and finds that you are being held illegally, the law requires that you be set free. This rule exists to protect people from being locked up without a good and lawful reason, and it gives anyone in that situation a way to fight back through the courts.
