§ 1461 Damages a bar to further action.

If you win money damages in a mandamus case because someone gave a false or improper response to a court order, you cannot sue that same person again over that same response. Once you get a judgment for damages on this issue, the matter is closed. You cannot file a second lawsuit trying to get more money or another judgment based on that same return.

This rule protects people from being sued twice for the same conduct. It also encourages people to raise all their claims and get everything resolved in one case, instead of filing repeat lawsuits over the same problem.
