If you file a lawsuit in Oklahoma and you are only asking for $250,000 or less in money damages, your case may qualify for a faster, simpler court process called an expedited action. To use this process, everyone bringing a claim in the case (except for anyone filing a counterclaim) must clearly state upfront that they are only seeking $250,000 or less. This amount does not include things like interest, punitive damages, penalties, attorney fees, or court costs, which can be requested on top of that limit.

There is a tradeoff for using this faster process. If you choose the expedited action route, you cannot end up winning more than $250,000 in your case, again not counting interest, punitive damages, penalties, attorney fees, or costs. So even if the evidence at trial might support a bigger award, the court will cap what you can actually collect at that $250,000 limit. This rule is meant to keep smaller cases moving quickly through the court system without the longer procedures used in bigger, more complex lawsuits.
