§ 2409 Payment of medical and similar expenses.

If someone pays for another person's medical bills after an accident, that payment can't be used in court as proof that they caused the accident. For example, if a driver offers to cover another person's hospital bills after a car crash, that offer can't be brought up later to argue the driver was at fault.

This rule exists to encourage people to help each other after accidents without worrying that their kindness will be used against them in a lawsuit. Without this protection, people might hesitate to offer help or cover costs, fearing it could be seen as an admission of guilt.

It's worth noting that this rule only blocks the evidence from being used to prove fault. If there's other evidence showing someone caused an injury, that evidence can still be used. The rule simply keeps the act of paying or offering to pay medical expenses separate from the question of who was responsible.
