Here's what this rule means: if a judge allows a child to testify in a special way (like through video, behind a screen, or in a separate room), both sides in the case must still get a real chance to question the child.

This means lawyers for each side can still ask the child questions and follow up on their answers, even if the child isn't testifying in the usual way in open court. The judge can change how the testimony happens to protect the child, but that change can't stop either side from asking their questions or challenging what the child says.

The point is to balance two things: protecting a child witness from stress or harm, and keeping the trial fair for everyone involved. No matter what setup the judge picks, both sides keep their right to question the child fully.
