Plain-English Summary (for reference only — not a substitute for the rule text above)
This summary is not the rule. The rule text controls.
Courts and the people involved in a lawsuit must use the discovery rules in a fair and practical way. Discovery is the process where each side gathers facts, documents, and evidence before trial. The goal is to make sure this process helps the case move forward quickly and fairly, without wasting time or money.
This rule reminds judges and lawyers that discovery should not be used to drag out a case or make it more expensive than it needs to be. Instead, it should help both sides get the information they need so the case can be decided based on the real facts. If someone tries to misuse discovery to delay the case or run up costs, this rule gives the court a reason to step in and keep things fair.
