§ 590 Jury must assess amount of recovery.

When a jury decides that one side owes money to the other, the jury has to state the exact dollar amount in their verdict. It's not enough for the jury to just say who wins the case. They must also figure out and write down how much money that person should get.

This matters because the verdict needs to be clear and complete. If the jury only says "we find for the plaintiff" without naming an amount, the verdict doesn't give the court enough information to know what to do next. The jury's job includes both deciding who wins and putting a specific number on what they're owed.
