§ 689 Judgment by confession.

If someone owes money or knows they could be sued, they can go to court in person and admit they owe the debt. This is called confessing judgment. The other person (the creditor) has to agree to this before it can happen. Once both sides agree and the confession is made in court, the judge enters a judgment right away.

This process lets people skip a full lawsuit when there is no real dispute about the debt. Instead of going through a trial, the person who owes money simply admits it in front of a judge. The court then makes it official by entering judgment, which has the same legal effect as if the case had been fully argued and decided.

This only works if both sides show up and agree. The creditor must consent to the confession, and the debtor must appear in person to make it. Without both of these steps, the court cannot enter judgment this way.
