§ 773 Payment to defendant of overplus after sale.

When a sheriff sells property to satisfy a debt, sometimes the sale brings in more money than what's actually owed. This rule says that if there's extra money left over after paying off the debt, interest, and court costs, the sheriff has to give that leftover money back to the person whose property was sold.

The defendant just needs to ask for the money, and the sheriff is required to hand it over. This protects people from losing more value than they actually owe. Even though the court forced the sale of their property, they still get to keep any extra profit from that sale instead of the sheriff or the creditor keeping it.
