Rule 18 Reciprocity

Appendix I - Rules of the State Board of Examiners of Certified Court Reporters

A. A person holding a license or certificate from another state which is deemed by the State Board of Examiners of Certified Court Reporters to be equivalent to that of an Oklahoma Certified Court Reporter-Stenography, or holding current national certification as a stenographic machines reporter, or holding both an equivalent license from another state and a national certification, may be enrolled without taking the skills examinations required by Section 1503 of Title 20 of the Oklahoma Statutes, upon satisfying the Board that the requirements set forth in Section 1505 of Title 20 of the Oklahoma Statutes are met.

B. Effective with an amendment of 20 O.S.§ 106.4(A)(a) (last amended by Laws 2023, SB 296, c. 100, §1, eff. 11/1/2023), eliminating the prohibition against the exclusive use of a steno-mask for court reporting, a person holding a license or certificate from another state which is deemed by the State Board of Examiners of Certified Court Reporters to be equivalent to that of an Oklahoma Certified Court Reporter-Voice-or holding current national certification as a voice reporter, or holding both an equivalent license from another state and a national certification, may be enrolled without taking the skills examination required by Section 1503 of Title 20 of the Oklahoma Statutes, upon satisfying the Board that the requirements set forth in Section 1505 of Title 20 of the Oklahoma Statutes are met.

C. The reciprocity applicant must, prior to certification, pass the Oklahoma Written Knowledge portion of the examination. All reciprocity applicants must submit to the Secretary of the Board, or a designee, a properly completed application form provided by the Board, accompanied by such evidence, statements or documents as required by the Board, including a reciprocity application fee required by the Board and approved by the Supreme Court.
