Plain-English Summary (for reference only — not a substitute for the rule text above)
This summary is not the rule. The rule text controls.
If someone escapes from a state prison, or if someone commits or is charged with a crime that could carry the death penalty, the Governor (or someone the Governor picks) can offer a cash reward to help catch them. This reward can go up to $1,000 and is paid using state money.
The reward can be given either for actually catching the person or for providing information that helps track them down. This means tipsters and everyday citizens can qualify for the money, not just police or bounty hunters. The goal is to get more people involved in finding dangerous escapees or suspects in serious crimes.
