If someone stole or embezzled property and it hasn't been given back to the owner yet, the judge handling the criminal trial can step in and fix that. Once the owner proves the property is really theirs, the judge can order it returned right then and there.

This means the owner doesn't have to file a separate lawsuit just to get their property back. The criminal trial itself can settle the question of who the property belongs to and get it back into the right hands.
