§ 1371.2 Indigent person may request services of Oklahoma Indigent Defense System DNA Forensic Testing Program.

If you were convicted of a felony and are still in prison for it, and you believe DNA testing could prove you did not commit the crime, you may be able to get help through the Oklahoma Indigent Defense System's DNA Forensic Testing Program. This option is for people who cannot afford to pay for a lawyer or testing on their own.

To use this program, you must be currently serving time for the felony conviction you want tested. You also need to have a real claim that DNA evidence exists and could show you are actually innocent, not just a general request for testing. This is not a way to challenge your sentence or argue legal errors from your trial. It is specifically for cases where physical evidence might prove factual innocence.

If you qualify, the state will provide you with legal help to request and pursue DNA testing under the DNA Forensic Testing Act. This gives people who cannot afford private testing or attorneys a path to seek this kind of evidence while still incarcerated.
