§ 255 Disposition of defendant on adjournment.

When a criminal case gets postponed to a later date, the judge has to decide what happens to the defendant in the meantime. The judge can either keep the person in jail until the new hearing date, or let them go free until then.

If the judge decides to release the person, they cannot just let them go without any conditions. The defendant must either post bail or pay a deposit of money to guarantee they will show up on the new court date. This money acts as a promise that the person will return for their hearing instead of skipping out.

This rule makes sure the court always has a plan for the defendant when a hearing gets delayed. It protects the court process by giving the defendant a reason to come back, while also giving people a chance to stay out of jail while they wait for their next hearing.
