§ 311 Grand jury defined.

A grand jury is a group of 12 people brought together to look into crimes that may have happened in their county. Their job is to check the evidence and decide if there's enough reason to believe a crime was committed and that someone should be formally charged.

The jurors are sworn in before they start, which means they promise to do their job honestly and fairly. They only look at crimes that fall under the authority of that specific court, meaning the crime happened in that county or can legally be tried there.

Keep in mind this rule uses old language that only mentions men as jurors. In practice today, grand juries include both men and women. The core idea stays the same: 12 citizens come together to review possible crimes and decide whether formal charges should move forward.
