§ 511 Demurrer overruled, defendant to plead.

If a defendant challenges the charges against them (called a demurrer) and the judge decides the charges are valid, the defendant then gets a chance to enter a plea. The judge either wants this done right away or sets a specific deadline for it.

The defendant must actually enter a plea when given this chance. If they refuse to plead or simply don't do it, the judge can move forward and issue a judgment against them anyway. In other words, staying silent or refusing to respond doesn't stop the case. It just means the court proceeds without the defendant's input on how they want to answer the charges.
