§ 563 Disposition of defendant on change of venue.

When a criminal case gets moved to a different county, the court has to decide what happens to the defendant if he's currently locked up. The judge's order will direct the sheriff who currently holds the defendant to transfer him to the custody of the proper officer in the new county where the case is being heard.

This means the defendant doesn't just stay in the original county's jail while the case moves elsewhere. He gets physically transferred so that he's in the custody of officials in the county now handling his case. The sheriff must follow the exact instructions in the court's order when making this transfer.
