§ 656 Challenge for cause.

When picking a jury, both sides get to question potential jurors and ask the judge to remove someone if there's a good reason they shouldn't serve. This is called a "challenge for cause." Either the prosecution or the defense can make this kind of challenge.

A challenge for cause is different from other types of jury strikes because it requires a specific reason. For example, a juror might be removed if they know someone involved in the case, have already made up their mind, or can't be fair for some other reason. Both the state and the defendant have equal rights to raise these challenges during jury selection.
