§ 709 Continuances, witness must take notice of.

If you get called as a witness in a criminal case, you're responsible for keeping track of any delays or postponements yourself. The court doesn't have to track you down and notify you each time the case gets pushed back to a new date.

Once you've been officially summoned as a witness, you stay "on the hook" for that case. You need to keep showing up as required until the judge tells you that you're done and released from your duty as a witness. The court won't send you a new summons every time the schedule changes, so it's on you to find out when you need to be there.

This means if you're a witness in a case, you should check in on the case status regularly instead of waiting to be contacted. Missing a court date because you didn't know about a postponement isn't a valid excuse under this rule.
