§ 814 Effect of dismissing action.

When a court dismisses a criminal case, the defendant is set free from any restrictions tied to that case. If the person was sitting in jail, they get released right away. If they had posted bail to stay out of jail while waiting for trial, that bail obligation goes away and they no longer owe anything on it.

If the defendant paid cash instead of using a bail bond, that money gets returned to them. The point of this rule is simple: once a case is dismissed, the person shouldn't stay locked up or keep dealing with bail conditions for a case that no longer exists. They get their freedom and their money back.
