If a criminal case gets dismissed, that doesn't mean the person is safe from being charged again for the same crime. Prosecutors can still bring another case against them later for that same offense.

A dismissal just closes out that particular case, but it leaves the door open for the state to file charges again if they choose to, as long as they follow the normal rules and deadlines for doing so (like the statute of limitations).

So if you're facing a criminal charge and the case against you gets dismissed, don't assume you're completely in the clear. Talk to a lawyer about whether the state could still refile charges down the road.
