RULE 1.262 INSPECTION OF EXPUNGED APPELLATE RECORDS

If a court record from an appeal has been expunged, that doesn't mean it's destroyed. The record still exists, but it's sealed off from public view. Nobody can look at it again unless the Oklahoma Supreme Court specifically gives permission.

This matters because expungement in this context is about restricting access, not erasing history. The court keeps the actual documents on file, but locks them away. If someone later needs to see that record for a legal reason, they have to ask the Supreme Court directly and get a court order allowing it. Without that order, the record stays off limits to everyone, including the general public.
