RULE 1.8 COMMUNICATIONS WITH THE COURT

Any time you want to talk to the Oklahoma Supreme Court about a case that's on appeal, you have to do it in writing. You can't call the court or send an informal letter about the issues in your case. Instead, you need to file a formal document, like a motion, petition, application, or suggestion, with the Clerk's office.

This rule also means you can't just contact the court on your own without telling the other side. Whatever you file has to be shared with the opposing lawyer or party too. This keeps things fair so both sides know what's being said to the court and have a chance to respond.

The point of this rule is to make sure all communication about a case is official, on the record, and open to everyone involved. It stops one side from having private conversations with the court that the other side doesn't know about.
